The Hadedahs at ten to five
Buried for Decades
For Neil Aggett, Jeannette Curtis and David Webster: murdered in different ways by the Apartheid police.
Buried for decades under the footfall
Of our busy lives, some deaths will not die.
Plastered on our retinas those faces call:
19 minutes and 20 Seconds
To my sister Anne who died with such dignity when life became unbearable
We lit a candle every night for the last ten days.
A least we meant to. Sometimes life got in the way,
Or we left it to someone else as happens quite lot.
She wouldn’t have minded had she known.
But mostly we lit a candle to burn quietly in the mirror
The Covid 19 Total Lockdown Blue
A series of verses written at different times, and in different styles, over the first few months of the South African COVID lockdown.
The day before
It’s 4-30 am on day minus one
And the total lock down has not yet begun,
Soon I’ll head out for the very last time
But I’m waiting for daybreak and penning this rhyme.
